Learn to invest from a working finance professional
Gingernomics exists to help beginner and intermediate investors become excellent investors in individual stocks — passing on the frameworks and philosophies of the great investors, in plain language.
Who's behind Gingernomics
Gingernomics is written by Cameron Hayes, a senior investor relations and finance professional. Cameron has worked in IR at Nasdaq Copenhagen-listed companies, including Nilfisk and Maersk Drilling, where he spent years on the inside of how large public companies communicate with the market and how professional investors actually make decisions.
He holds an MSc from Copenhagen Business School and a BCom from the University of Ottawa, and he manages his own concentrated equity portfolio using the same Five Criteria framework taught across this site.
What we believe
Most investing content is noise — hot tips, hype and oversimplified rules that fall apart under pressure. We believe individual investors can do genuinely well by learning a small number of durable principles and applying them with discipline:
- A stock is part-ownership of a real business, not a ticker to trade.
- Risk is the permanent loss of capital, not short-term volatility.
- Price matters: even a great business can be a poor investment if you overpay.
- Temperament beats intelligence. Patience and discipline win over time.
The Five Criteria
Everything here is built on a single framework — five criteria that great long-term investors use to separate quality businesses from weak ones, and to avoid overpaying. Read the full framework →
